SS7: Tänak ups the pressure!

30/03/2019

Ott Tänak got off to a flying start this morning. The Estonian set the fastest time in front of the leader, Elfyn Evans, and he has closed the gap to the Welshman to 3.9 seconds.  Sébastien Loeb has got the hang of his Hyundai i20 coupe WRC with its new setup and shone by banging in the fastest time. The Citroën C3 WRCs of Sébastien Ogier and Esapekka Lappi are still not fully sorted at the start of the second stage and they were more than 10 seconds off the fastest time.

#5. KRIS MEEKE & SEBASTIAN MARSHALL
“I’m still learning and I have to up my game. We have to fight our way up the time sheets in view of the championship.”

#10. JARI-MATTI LATVALA & MIKKA ANTTILA
“I went off in this stage last year. That’s what explains my pace in the second part of the special.”

#19. SÉBASTIEN LOEB & DANIEL ELENA
“For the moment we’re the quickest. I tried to push and we had a good stage. We tweaked the setup yesterday and I feel good in the car: I tried to be on it right from the first stage.”

#4. ESAPEKKA LAPPI & JANNE FERM
“I’ve got the same feeling as yesterday. It’s better, but it’s obviously still not good enough.”

#1. SEBASTIEN OGIER & JULIEN INGRASSIA
“We’ve made a lot of changes; it’s better although it’s still not what I want.”

#3. TEEMU SUNINEN & MARKO SALMINEN
“It was pretty dirty in certain places. It’s a very challenging stage. We had problems.”

#6. DANI SORDO & CARLOS DEL BARRIO
The car’s good. I’ve got a good feeling even if the time isn’t all that great. I’m not quick enough in some places and it’s difficult to understand why.”

#11. THIERRY NEUVILLE & NICOLAS GILSOUL
“At the start of the stage the car felt good. It was more difficult at the end though overall the Hyundai’s performing well. I was too cautious in certain braking phases.”

#8. OTT TÄNAK & MARTIN JÄRVEOJA
“Battle’s well and truly joined and it’s going to be very tight again today so we have to pull our finger out.”

#33. ELFYN EVANS & SCOTT MARTIN
“It was a good stage even if I wasn’t on it everywhere.”

#21. KALLE ROVANPERÄ & JONNE HALTTUNEN
“Now I have a better setup and we’ve made a good start this morning. I still have to learn how to drive here as it’s a very difficult rally. We’ll be a bit quicker today.”

#22. LUKASZ PIENIAZEK & KAMIL HELLER
“It’s very difficult; I wasn’t feeling at all confident.”
