SS5: Elfyn Evans rams home his advantage

29/03/2019

Elfyn Evans set his third-quickest time in the third longest stage of the day and consolidated his lead. The Team M-Sport Ford WRT driver has become a serious victory contender as the kilometres unfold, while Ott Tänak has seen Thierry Neuville pull back a few tenths-of-a-second in the battle for second place. Sébastien Ogier and Sébastien Loeb set the fourth and fifth times respectively, but the Valinco stage proved fatal to the hopes of the Toyotas of Kris Meeke (off, damaged right-hand rear corner) and Jari-Matti Latvala (puncture with wheel change).

Friday 29th March
SS5 (Valinco 2)
Distance: 25,94 km
Weather: Sunny
Road conditions: Dry

#8. OTT TÄNAK & MARTIN JÄRVEOJA
“It was a good stage. I’m not yet on the limit, but we’re setting a good pace even so.”

#1. SÉBASTIEN OGIER & JULIEN INGRASSIA
“The car’s just not quick. I’m suffering from understeer. For the moment I don’t know if we can change something in the service park.”

#5. KRIS MEEKE & SEBASTIAN MARSHALL
Hit a kerb on the right-hand rear side. No comment.

#33. ELFYN EVANS & SCOTT MARTIN
“It just keeps getting better. The car’s pace is good and I feel really confident. It’s all going great guns!”

#4. ESAPEKKA LAPPI & JANNE FERM
“I’m really at the limit: that’s all I can say. We’re incredibly slow, today.”

#19. SÉBASTIEN LOEB & DANIEL ELENA
“No worries! We’re trying to push. The car’s feeling pretty good.”

#10. JARI-MATTI LATVALA & MIKKA ANTTILA
“Shortly after the start – about two kilometres – we had a slow puncture. I followed the same line as the others, but obviously not as successfully.”

#6. DANI SORDO & CARLOS DEL BARRIO
“The feeling’s quite good: I’m pretty happy and I’m trying to drive as quickly as I can. The drivers in front are very fast.”
