SS3: Tänak’s turn!

29/03/2019

There was a different winner in each of the three stages in the first loop: Elfyn Evans, Kris Meeke and Ott Tänak. The leader of the World Championship clinched his first special and consolidated his first place. But it’s incredibly tight at the front. The first four Tänak, Evans, Thierry Neuville and Dani Sordo were covered by only seven seconds when the flag signalled the end of loop 1. For the moment, Sébastien Ogier seems to be suffering in eighth place.”

Friday 29th March
SS3 (Alta-Rocca 1)
Distance: 17,37 km
Weather: Sunny
Road conditions: Dry

#8. OTT TÄNAK & MARTIN JÄRVEOJA
“It hasn’t been perfect, but overall not a bad first loop. We haven’t run into any problems; the car’s working well. I think I can up the pace.”

#1. SÉBASTIEN OGIER & JULIEN INGRASSIA
“We were certainly hoping for a better start. We’re still trying to find the right setup on the car. We’ve made a few changes and that seems to be an improvement. We’ll try and go quicker this afternoon.”

#11. THIERRY NEUVILLE & NICOLAS GILSOUL
“The car felt a lot better in this stage. But my notes aren’t perfect: sometimes a bit too optimistic and then too slow so because of this I prefer not to really go for it.”

#5. KRIS MEEKE & SEBASTIAN MARSHALL
“Now we just have to fight our way back up the time sheets by pushing. I clipped something in the first stage. That’s how it goes…”

#33. ELFYN EVANS & SCOTT MARTIN
“A good stage for us. Everything’s going well; we’ve made a great start to the rally.”

#4. ESAPEKKA LAPPI & JANNE FERM
“I spun at the start of the stage in a hairpin. Things feel better, but we still need to improve.”

#19. SÉBASTIEN LOEB & DANIEL ELENA
“This stage was a good one for us. We lost a lot of time earlier on this morning, so now we’re just going to keep on driving and enjoy things.”

#10. JARI-MATTI LATVALA & MIKKA ANTTILA
“My notes aren’t good. They’re too slow so I can’t go any quicker. We have to work on this.”

#6. DANI SORDO & CARLOS DEL BARRIO
“We didn’t set a good time in this one. There was a lot of gravel on the road, unlike the previous stages.”

#3. TEEMU SUNINEN & MARKO SALMINEN
“We’ve had a good morning. I could be quicker, but we don’t want to take risks. Let’s see what happens this afternoon.
