SS11: Sudden twist!

30/03/2019

After taking back the lead at the end of SS9, Estonian Ott Tänak suffered a puncture at the start of the special and decided to stop and change the wheel. The world championship leader fell back to seventh position! It was a gift from the gods for Elfyn Evans who now leads the rally. But the Welshman must keep a close eye on Thierry Neuville who has closed the gap to only 11 seconds. Dani Sordo completes the new-look top three.

Saturday 30th March
SS11 (Désert des Agriates 2)
Distance: 14,45 km
Weather: Sunny
Road conditions: Dry

#5. KRIS MEEKE & SEBASTIAN MARSHALL
“It was slippery. I thought my times would be better seeing those of the others behind me.”

#10. JARI-MATTI LATVALA & MIKKA ANTTILA
Puncture on right-hand front.
“It was my fault; I made a mistake. I wanted to push more to compensate for the lack of performance since the start.”

#19. SÉBASTIEN LOEB & DANIEL ELENA
“We didn’t have a bad run even if we’ve been suffering from understeer since the afternoon. In addition to profiting from being here we’re going to continue working on the car.”

#4. ESAPEKKA LAPPI & JANNE FERM
“We won’t be anywhere near the fastest time, that’s for sure. I’m trying to do my best. All I can do now is to wait for the next round where I hope we’ll be able to make up for what we’ve lost here.”

#1. SÉBASTIEN OGIER & JULIEN INGRASSIA
“It was okay for us, but the time wasn’t great, like our weekend. Fourth place is our objective although it’s looking difficult when you take into account our performance this afternoon. However, I’m flat out all the time.”

#3. TEEMU SUNINEN & MARKO SALMINEN
“I drove pretty well on this stage. I know we can improve even more as it’s our first time in this rally with this car so we have every reason to be happy.”

#6. DANI SORDO & CARLOS DEL BARRIO
“We lost quite a lot of time in the previous stage so we wanted to push in this one. Being up against Seb (Ogier), who’s the world champion, after all, won’t be easy and we have to continue going pedal to the metal.”

#11. THIERRY NEUVILLE & NICOLAS GILSOUL
“We’ve just heard about Ott. We’re giving everything. We can see that if you compare the times of Loeb, Ogier and Sordo who are specialists here. We’re really hitting the loud pedal.”

#8. OTT TÄNAK & MARTIN JÄRVEOJA
Puncture on right-hand front tyre.
“We punctured in a strange place.”

#33. ELFYN EVANS & SCOTT MARTIN
“Ott’s puncture? It’s a bit of luck for us even if it’s a pity for him. My pace wasn’t quite good enough here to push harder. But we’re going to have to get back in the groove as Thierry isn’t far behind.

#22. LUKASZ PIENIAZEK & KAMIL HELLER
Puncture on the left-hand front tyre.

#32. ÉRIC CAMILLI & FRANCOIS-XAVIER BURESI
“Yes, our aim’s to get back in front, but the main thing is to win tomorrow afternoon.”
