The FFSA French Rally Team well placed

06/04/2018

The two members of the FFSA French Rally Team, Pierre-Louis Loubet and Jean-Baptiste Franceschi, honoured their flag by putting on a great show in the first leg of the 2018 CORSICA linea – Tour de Corse.

At the end of a sunny, satisfactory day the two members of the FFSA French Rally Team ended the first leg of the CORSICA linea – Tour de Corse on a high note. Pierre-Louis Loubet and Jean-Baptiste Franceschi, fifth and second respectively in their categories, put themselves in a good position for the next two legs of the rally.

In WRC2, the final step on the ladder before the blue-riband World Rally Championship Loubet, co-driven by Vincent Landais, showed great consistency by being in the first five throughout almost all four special stages held today. Only a lack of familiarity with the Hyundai i20 R5 he was driving for the second time this season held him back and meant that he had to make do with fifth place in his category.

In the Junior World Rally Championship reserved for drivers under 28, Franceschi, co-driven by Romain Courbon, impressed onlookers in his first CORSICA linea – Tour de Corse. After the first stage was neutralised, the young French driver upped the pace throughout the day and set the fastest time in the last stage giving him second place overall in his category.

“It’s been a good opening day as we’re lying second and fighting for victory. There’s still a long way to go so we can’t make any mistakes and we have to keep up the pace. We can’t drive at the same speed as in the French Championship as the WRCs in front of us degrade the road and you can be caught out. So you have to give yourself some leeway, but we’ve already laid down a good base for tomorrow.” Jean-Baptiste Franceschi, member of the FFSA French Rally Team

“It’s been a mixed day. As we’ve only covered a short distance in testing we didn’t realise this morning that our set-up wasn’t right. We changed it for La Porta this afternoon and things went much better. We lost out on a place on the podium because of a spin. This being said we’re not far off, and we’re going to try and push hard tomorrow to go and grab it!” Pierre-Louis Loubet, member of the FFSA Frech Rally Team
