SS5 – Sébastien Loeb on the pace right away

07/04/2018

Sébastien Loeb, who rejoined in Rally 2 after his off yesterday morning, has lost none of his motivation, nor his pace! The nine-time World Rally Champion clinched the first fastest time of the day in front of Esapekka Lappi – a surprise! – and the other Citroën Racing driver, Kris Meeke. The Northern Irishman’s speed brought him to within five-tenths of Thierry Neuville in their battle for second place. Among other incidents Elfyn Evans stalled and lost precious seconds at the end of the special, while Stéphane Lefebvre, fourth in WRC2 before the stage, stopped almost immediately after the start.

“I had a lot of information with the notes; it was difficult. The roads are narrow.”

2. ELFYN EVANS/PHIL MILLS
“I stalled in the last hairpin. The second section of the stage is very narrow.”

“The tyres were probably too hot in the middle of the stage.  I’m very happy with my driving and my set-up. We’ve made a lot of progress since yesterday.”

8. OTT TÄNAK/MARTIN JÄRVEOJA
“I have a problem every time I touch the handbrake. In addition, my notes could be better.”

“I fell off the pace in the middle of the stage, but I was back on it at the end.”

5. THIERRY NEUVILLE/NICOLAS GILSOUL
“My notes were a bit too optimistic. I had to calm down. You just have to accept it, it’s the first passage through this stage.”

1. SEBASTIEN OGIER/JULIEN INGRASSIA
“No worries. I wanted to validate my notes. We didn’t push like crazy like we did yesterday. The car’s still very good.”
