Kris Meeke improves the 2016 time of Ogier by 15 seconds and sets the fastest time again with 18:22.3. He leads Sebastien Ogier by 3.2 seconds, Thierry Neuville by 6.2 seconds and Ott Tanak by 7.6 seconds. The main loser of this stage was Elfyn Evans who is suffering from hydraulic issues. The Welsh driver loses 2:10.2 from Meeke. The Citroen driver has a provisional 8.2 second lead over Ogier in the overall classification, third provisional place for Neuville who is 7.2 seconds behind. Tanak is fourth by 21.5 seconds. All the WRC drivers run the first loop of two stages with a set of five hard compound tyres.

Date: Friday 7th April
Section: 1
Special Stage: SS2 Plage du Liamone – Sarrola-Carcopino 1 (29.12 km)
Weather: Blue sky, sunny. Comfortable temperature.
Road Conditions: Dry and clean, many spectators in good positions.

1. OGIER / INGRASSIA – FORD FIESTA WRC
A good feeling on this stage, a different characteristic, it’s smoother. Not perfect but better, I had good fun on this stage. Enjoyable.

10. LATVALA / ANTTILA – TOYOTA YARIS WRC
It’s better. I had a better stage but I can still see that I’m not driving well enough. I’m hesitating too much in some places. The car is fine but I need to improve my driving – I know myself.

2. TANAK / JARVEOJA – FORD FIESTA WRC
The stage is very nice, but I don’t know why we are struggling a lot. It’s the balance, we made changes and it’s still not nice. A lot better than my previous time in Corsica.

5. NEUVILLE / GILSOUL – HYUNDAI I20 COUPE WRC
It was OK, I was struggling a bit with my rhythm and it’s hard to see where it’s dirty. I need to improve the times, the handling of the car is a bit better.

7. MEEKE / NAGLE – CITROEN C3 WRC
Really good. This is the stage that Ogier beat everyone by 10 seconds on both passes last year so I’m really happy. We’ll go to regroup and see what we can do.

8. BREEN / MARTIN – CITROEN C3 WRC
I’m happy to be in the ballpark of everyone else. No moments and a lot of scope for improvement.

3. EVANS / BARRITT – FORD FIESTA WRC
We have an issue with hydraulics on the car.

4. PADDON / KENNARD – HYUNDAI I20 COUPE WRC
It was not so bad but the time is not really anywhere so it was a bit of a suprise. My expectations are pretty high. the first stage was pretty good. The car seems to be working OK.

9. LEFEBVRE / MOREAU – CITROEN C3 WRC
It was very good and very fast. On the last section I lost my speed with the notes.

31. CAMILLI / VEILLAS – FORD FIESTA R5
I pushed, I don’t know the time compared to Mikkelsen but the time is maybe not so bad.

32. MIKKELSEN / JAEGER-SYNNEVAAG – SKODA FABIA R5
It’s a little bit more easy on this stage to drive safe and fast at the same time. It’s difficult without gravel crews to go fast and safe, but it’s the same for everyone.

34. SUNINEN / MARKKULA – FORD FIESTA R5
It was OK, but a small mistake on a small road. Hopefully the time was OK.

33. KOPECKY / DRESLER – SKODA FABIA R5
There is something broken in the steering rack so we can’t fix it. It’s quite dangerous to drive, we have to go slow.

36. BOUFFIER / GIRAUDET – FORD FIESTA R5
I’m doing my best but we’re not able to do a good time. We make some changes after the first stage but it’s not enough. It’s not very precise and going wide. I try to play with my car with my right foot but it’s not nice.

35. BERGKVIST / SJOBERG – CITROEN DS3 R5
It’s OK, we change the setup between the stages and I think it’s the right way. We try to push a bit more now, the brakes are fading a bit when the stage is long.

38. VEIBY / SKJAERMOEN – SKODA FABIA R5
This one was better than the first stage. I found more rhythm than the first stage. It’s a difficult rally so we take it step by step and I improve my driving. This stage was better so we are going in the right direction.

40. LOUBET / LANDAIS – FORD FIESTA R5
We lost our brakes on the liaison section after the first stage. It’s a mess and every year it’s the same.

44. ROSSEL / FULCRAND – CITROEN DS3 R5
It went well even if we are still discovering the car. We still have two or three things to improve on the settings.

45. PELLIER / NEYRET-GIGOT – CITROEN DS3 R5
It’s better than the first stage. It’s not that easy to drive a four wheel drive but we’re having fun.

21. DUMAS / CHIAPPE – PORSCHE 997 GT3 RS 4.0
I had to change a wheel on the liaison section after we punctured on stage one. It was difficult on that stage with the small spare wheel.

22. DELECOUR / SAVIGNONI – ABARTH 124 RALLY
I’m having engine troubles.

84. SARRAZIN / RENUCCI – HYUNDAI I20 R5
It’s nice to be back on rallies. I slide a lot and so it’s hard to be on full throttle.

85. MANZAGOL / PATRONE – FORD FIESTA R5
I’m still trying to understand how this car works. It’s wonderful to see the support of the Corsican fans.

87. FIORI / TAVERA – SKODA FABIA R5
It’s really a very high level on this rally.

101. SOLANS BALDO / IBANEZ SOTOS – FORD FIESTA R2
It really went well. I had a good rhythm, even if this stage was better than the first one, I did my best not to puncture.

102. FOLB / GUIEU – FORD FIESTA R2
Much better than in the first stage, we partly managed to cure some setting issues after the first stage.
