2017 – SS 10: Porto-Vecchio – Palombaggia – Power Stage

27/03/2017

Each week, we unveil the details of one of the ten special stages that will constitute the 2017 Che Guevara Energy Drink Tour de Corse. With the collaboration of David Serieys and Yves Loubet, dive into SS10.

David Serieys, Tour de Corse 2017 Director:

“This stage starts in Precojo and the cars head for Bocca-di-L’Oru along beautiful, twisty undulating roads that follow the coast overlooking the beaches of Folaca, Tamaricciu and Palombaggia. They then leave the first part for a narrow, twistier section at Porra followed by a string of hairpins before the finish of the Power Stage. The crews that have survived all the traps on the 316,16 km stages in the 2017 Che Guevara Energy Drink Tour de Corse will celebrate the finish of the rally in the heart of the Porto-Vecchio Marina.”

Yves Loubet, former Corsican driver crowned European Rally Champion and huge instigator of the layout for the renewal of the Tour de Corse:

“It’s really a pictorial stage. From the helicopter, the television viewers will have a sublime view. Among others, on the Palombaggia beach with a fabulous water color. It’s quite though to drive from the start to the small village of Bocca-di-L’Oru. These roads are used to serve the littoral, with many bumps. You don’t know what you are going to find behind. After, parallel to the sea, it’s a road quite wide but with some breakages and an heterogeneous tarmac due to the numerous works generated by the cables and pipes’ laying. To finish, with the left hairpin at the bottom of the Porapo (or Porra) hill, it becomes fun again. While the first part of the special stage is not very natural, the second one is very cool. Till ten years ago, the climb to Porapo was still on gravel. Today, in the urban planning field, with the view on the islands, it has changed and you can have a lot of fun there. Generally, at this moment of the rally, the race is over, but we also know that the Tour de Corse is always complicated…”
