Hänninen continues with Hyundai Motorsport for the 2014 season

Hyundai Motorsport has revealed the first drivers who will share the second seat of the i20 WRC all along the 2014 season. Test driver in 2013, Juho Hänninen becomes an official driver for 2014.

After Thierry Neuville’s announcement as its main driver, Hyundai Motorsport has just revealed the identity of the second driver who will support him on some of the World Rally Championship’s rounds. It will be Juho Hänninen, the first test driver who joined the South-Korean brand in 2013.

His quality work to develop the i20 WRC, during the multiple test sessions all over the world, and its 3 500 kilometers at the helm, have made a difference. Juho has done an outstanding job in testing this year”, explained Michel Nandan, Hyundai Motorsport Team Principal. “He brings with him a vast experience of WRC and he has completed the most kilometers in the Hyundai i20 WRC this year so we feel he will be an ideal complement to Thierry.”

The Finnish driver shared the same kind of enthusiasm: “I am really honored. It’s been a pleasure to work with them in testing and I really respect the opportunity to drive some rallies for the team in 2014.” Alongside his occasional appearances in the second Hyundai i20 WRC car next year, Hänninen will also continue to play a vital testing role as the team prepares for 2015.

Hyundai Motorsport has already revealed that Juho Hänninen will only contest selected event in the World Rally Championship. Knowing that he will start with Sweden Rally, other drivers might also jump into the game, especially for the season-opener Rally Monte-Carlo. A seat which might be for our Frenchman Bryan Bouffier?
